The latest fashionplate features the Tasch black silk shorts at the bar at Henry at the Life Hotel. Met a gf here to celebrate her passing a professional test. We ended up starting strong with some sauv blanc. We decided to grab some apps as we were drinking. We got the knishes which were very good, and the baked clams because who doesn’t love baked clams. Then I got more wine and she decided together a martini which the bartender comped for her passing her test. So sweet of her. We went on a Friday at 6pm and it was mostly tourists at both the bar and sitting the restaurant side. But we had a great time catching up and fueling up before a night out. This week’s fashionplate features our Jacqueline striped kimono at one of my fav mini chains Mexicue. Went here for lunch and sat at the bar and I had to order the Spiked Palmero which is delish, bourbon spiked iced tea with limeade so good. I love their queso so I had to get there, fab as always. Their menu has changed to smaller portions which I kind of dig. I got the spicy brisket enchilada which was cheesy and spicy right up my ally. I was dressed a little risque for the lunch crowd but it was hot out so whatevs. I’ll definitely be back for their happy hour. See how rocked this fashionplate below. Shout out to the friendly bartender Mario!
This week’s fashionplate takes place at Speedy Romeo’s in LES and rocked our Taylor buffalo check flannel shirt. I met a gf here for brunch on a surprisingly warm weekend. Of course we started with Bloody Mary’s, mine extra spicy. We then decided to split two things so we could try a pizza and something else. We got the Ritz pizza, which features taylor ham, an egg, plenty of cheese and tabasco, we all know I love my hot sauce. This was delish. We also got the baked eggs that had a delish tomato sauce and lots of cheese plus crusty butter bread to dip. Both of these dishes were yummy and we left brunch having to call our asses an uber. Fatgirls fo life. There weren’t a ton of people here but we had a late brunch for a non party brunch around 2:30 or so. See how I styled our Taylor shirt for this fashionplate below.
This week’s fashionplate is a much overdue dinnertime visit to Bowery hotspot- Vandal. I’ve been a bunch for drinks and the club but have been meaning to try the food. I finally got the chance to get there for dinner and it definitely lived up to the hype. I decided to rock our brand new F/W16 Ellie Henley bodysuit for the perfect dinner to drinks to dancing outfit. My dining companion and me were seated pretty promptly in this huge restaurant and club that formerly housed The General and Finale. I love the flowershop entrance and all the great street art. I tried the Sergeant Bell Pepper cocktail which had a great hint of spice and I also had the Lost & Found. We were starving and split a ton of things. The knish reuben was amazing who doesn’t like meat, cheese, potato and thousand island dressing in one neat little package? The hot pretzel tartare was surprisingly tasty and flavorful. The red snapper tostadas rounded out our small plates with a slightly more health conscious app. People love the johnnycakes but we thought they were just ok, would probably not get them again, not as special as the remainder of the items we ordered. The wild mushroom pizza was amazing, orgasm in my mouth, can eat this once a week good. We went with one main, the branzino which was also delish. We probably over ordered by one or two items but yolo. We rounded out the meal with something sweet the smores which you can see got me all kinds of googly eyed.
All in all a great meal, definitely an all night spot from drinks to dinner and then late night dancing. The crowd was mostly young working professionals and downtown scensters with some tourists thrown in. This is definitely a spot to take a fashion risk and try something new. See how I styled my bodysuit below for this fashionplate.
Another Italian resto for this weeks fashionplate. This cold weather just begs for comfort food. Mulino a Vino is a newish hidden gem in the Meatpacking district. Head down the unassuming staircase on 14th Street between eighth and ninth avenues and you are transported to a chic open kitchen wine bar away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I wanted to rock our leather t-back Patti tank but obviously winterized it as it’s beyond freezing out these past few weeks. Can spring get here any sooner. We ended up sitting at the bar as we wanted to see the chefs preparing the food and ask for wine recommendations. I had a great full bodied red recommended that I ended up having 3 glasses of, I don’t recall the name and my dining companion had a Chianti he enjoyed. We were then told the best way to go was splitting 4-5 small plates between us, I love getting to try a little bit of everything so this was cool for me. We got the San Daniele’s Miracle which was basically little foccacia buns stuffed with prosciutto, burrata and tomatoes which was very good but not a standout dish. Then came out the Bombolone a la Norma which was an amazing pasta donut with eggplant and cheese so good. We also got the polpo alla luciana which was also beyond amazing octopus dish. The goncchi sorrentina was super cheesy with an outstanding sauce. Our last dish was veal filet which was more of veal chop and was solid but not one of our top 3 dishes.
We were too stuffed for dessert but definitely recommend this place for a date or catch up dinner with your friends. The crowd varies from young couples to older couples and groups of people looking for an unpretentious dinner and wine before heading out to one of the meatpacking clubs or lounges.
