NYFW Snacks on the Go with Chelsey

chelsey in hamptonThis week I took a quick break to sit down with nutritionist/blogger Chelsey Amer, and talk about eating smart on the go during fashion week and all things locally sourced and produced.  As a local NYC based designer who also produces all her garments locally in the garment district, I take “think locally” and apply it to all aspects of my life especially food.  Chelsey is also like minded and loves supporting all things local beyond just produce :)

She also was sweet enough to make me a delicious green smoothie (you all know me and my green juices/smoothies I can’t get enough) with ingredients from the Union Square Farmers market.  See the recipe below.

Other than green smoothies, see Chelsey’s list of some great on the go snacks for NYFW that are healthy, filling and don’t cause you to bloat (a must during NYFW):

  • Almonds or any kind of nuts
  • Pepito (pumpkin) seeds
  • Yogurt
  • Avocado (healthy fat and fiber)
  • Dark chocolate ( gives you a quick jolt of energy)
  • Roasted sweet potatoes with olive oil and chili powder (or any herbs for flavor without the added sodium)

And always remember to hydrate, lots of coconut water or plain old H2O.

Green Glow Smoothie Recipe:

1/4 avocado
1 frozen banana
2 cups spinach (more if you’d like!)
1 kiwi, sliced
1/4 cup coconut water
Blend until smooth. Feel free to add chia seeds for added protein & fiber.
