Hell yea, I love me some fried chicken and champagne. So of course I had to organize a fun dinner with friends at one of the newest spots in town that caters to FRIED CHICKEN and CHAMPAGNE! Birds&Bubbles was the perf place to check out for my second Fashionplate series! I do love eating healthy at times, I swear one of the fashionplates eventually will be something a little less fatty but for now it’s Fall and elastic waistbands are in. Lol.
You definitely need a res, in this little mini teeny tiny Tasch sized southern jewel box size of a restaurant. This spot might be slightly hard to find as it’s across from the park on Forsyth and down a narrow staircase. Four of us got here at 8:30 for our res and we had to wait a bit since our initial res was for only 3, whatever more time to start sampling some champers. They have a variety of lesser known champagnes which is kind of cool way to find some new favs, right?
Now on to the food, once we were seated in the outdoor patio complete with cute stringed lighting and mason jar everything we proceeded to order more champers and a vodka soda for the boy of the group. We started out with two orders of the pimento cheese croquettes (there are 3 in an order heads up) and the tomato pie. The pimento cheese croquettes which were fried cheesy goodness which is obvs right up my ally. The tomato pie was solid but not the winner of the app game. After that we ordered the Winner Winner chicken dinner which was a bucket of fried chicken (8 pieces) a bread basket and 3 sides. We decided to f*ck veggies that night and yolo and went with the vidalia onion souffle, mac&cheese, and jalapeno cheese grits. I took a breast because I’m a fatty at heart and it’s the biggest and I didn’t feel like dealing with bones. This fried chicken is definitely legit. It’s crispy and well seasoned on the outside and tender on the inside. Of all my dining companions we liked the mac&cheese the best of all the sides, it has a cracker crust and the right amount of cheese and cream. The jalapeno cheddar grits were yummy but one friend thought the spice was a bit too overwhelming. The vidalia onion souffle was just meh. Out of the bread basket the biscuits won out as our fav carb. The brioche rolls were a close second. More champers was in order at this point and time for dessert. We split the birthday cake in a mason jar and the banana pudding. Did I mention everything comes in a mason jar here, adorable! I love banana pudding so there was no way I was leaving here without trying this, omg this was amazeballs, for real, we had to order a second one, one of my friends was OBSESSED with the crunchies! The birthday cake was a white cake with sprinkles and white frosting, yummy but super sweet. By this time we were stuffed and needed to be tucked into a mason jar and rolled out of the resto.
Now that you got the food down, let’s get to fashion part. This resto has a bit of a haute southern yet homey feel. So nothing too dressy, leave your loubs at home. The crowd for the most part is young, hipster kids from the LES/E VIl. Lots of skinny jeans, flannels, all black everything and the like. I decided to buck the trend and not wear pants but elastic was a complete necessity for me. See the complete outfit of the day deets that I paired with my Joan romper below.
