So I love fashion and food and thought it would be fun to combine my love for the two by doing FashionPlate posts once or twice a month and review a new hotspot in NYC and tells you a fun outfit to wear that looks majorly approbs!
Be sure to make a res at Cherche Midi, located on the Bowery in the old Pulinos space, if you don’t want to wait during peak dining hours. We arrived a few moments before our 8:30 res and were seated immediately at a corner table. The decor manages to be airy and light but intimate at the same time. The white tiles, pale yellow walls and the Balthazar Red booths tie everything together in the typical Keith McNally fashion. My companion and me started with some cocktails while catching up. I opted for the bubbly cherchez la femme, while he opted for the Riviera Julep. They both looked beautiful but were on the sweeter side which always means I’m switching to wine for my meal. Our waitress was super cute, bubbly and helpful. We decided to start with the pot the fromage since everyone knows cheese and shoes are my the way to my heart. It is basically a parmesan cheese custard that came with anchovy garlic butter toasts. So yummy and filling, the perfect comfort food. By this time i switched to a dry Syrah which was lovely and we decided to split a few things including the burger, the salmon and the spinach gratin. The prime rib burger (medium rare) has gotten a lot of hype and has a lot going on with the gruyere cheese, bacon marmalade, and roasted mushrooms. It’s good but wasn’t a top five for either of us, a little too much going on here for us, the marmalade was a little too overpowering and caused the bun to become soggy before we were done eating. The pomme frites accompanying the burger were flawless as usual at any Keith McNally resto. On to the pan seared salmon, which was light and savory and absolutely delicious with creme fraiche on top. The lentils it came with were amazing I could eat that all day everyday. The spinach gratin was average; a bit to heavy with the breadcrumbs on top. We were beyond stuffed but both love to end with something sweet and decided to buck from our usual chocolate trend and go with the pineapple tarte tatin which you can see me enjoying above. Which, omg, was amazing, it was flaky and sweet, and came topped with vanilla ice cream, so good we contemplated ordering another one but controlled ourselves. Next time I would try the beef tartare or salad nicoise and the prime rib and skate which are also supposed to be amazing.
Now that you got a feel for the food, let’s talk fashion. The crowd here ranges from groups of young downtown girls, gorg couples, older power couples and tourists. Mostly everyone is well dressed in a casual luxury kind of way, perf for Tasch. I decided to wear my the new Donna ribbon trim cami but keep with that downtown casual luxury vibe and not be too overdressed. See the outfit of the day deets of how I styled it below. It’s starting to get chilly so definitely have been needing to add layers.
