This week’s fashionplate features our brand new Fall/Winter 2016/17 eyelash sweater at the new Batali resto in the Maritime Hotel. I love going to places that are close to my apartment and have been wanting to check out La Sirena for a while. After an event I was starving and in need of wine and we found ourselves at the luxe spacious bar sipping some wine while waiting for a table to open up. Once we were seated my dining companion and I decided to try a few things. We started with the fresh buricotta which is a decadent and creamy cheese that melted in my mouth. We also got the crudo which was standard and fresh. I’m a pasta/carb whore so I had to go in for it and get at least two. The cavatelli with spare ribs was hearty and delicious. We also adored the panzotti with leeks, cheese and a brown butter sauce, totally my kind of pasta dish. We rounded the meal out with the duck breast medium rare which was also great. All in all it was a great Italian meal where I needed to be carted out of the resto, thank god it’s a short walk home. I definitely will be back to check out brunch outside now that it’s getting warmer.
This place gets packed so if you don’t want to wait I would make a reservation even though it’s a large space. The crowd is lots of trendy twenty and thirty-somethings plus some older business dinners and tourists. Definitely dress to impress. See how I styled this fashionplate below.

This week’s fashionplate is light and fun for the start of Spring. I’ve been wanting to check out Avant Garden, a tiny vegan spot in the east village next to Miss Lily’s 7A so the bestie and I went one Tuesday evening. Good thing I made a res because this petite spot was not accepting walk ins even on a Tuesday. We abstained from drinking and decided to split a few things. The smoked eggplant toast was amazing and you are given two large pieces. My friend wasn’t fond of the fennel hummus toast, it has a bit of a citrus quick to it. For mains we got the maitake mushrooms which was perfectly seasoned and even non veggie lovers would like. We also decided to add some carbs and basmati rice risotto which we both gobbled up, it was that good. We left satisfied but not stuffed. If you come super hungry I would probably add one more dish for two.
The vibe was chill and cozy. There were lots of groups of two girlfriends catching up and a few dates. Good job boys, keeping your women happy by trying vegan food. See how I styled our Katharine striped shirtdress for this fashionplate below.
This week’s fashionplate features a few of my favorite things- our Sophia eggplants cami, margaritas, and queso. My dining companion and I were starving after getting my hair did. I love all things Mexican and tex-mex so I knew we had to hit up Avenida Cantina. We were promptly seated and I ordered a marg, obvi, and he got a rum punch. We started with the Big Al’s Special queso which was super yummy with the chorizo in the melty cheese. The complimentary salsa was also pretty solid. I went with the frito pie enchiladas with white queso, jalapenos and sour cream on top because you might as well treat yo self. My dining companion got a steak burrito with queso and sour cream on top. Needless to say we were both in food coma after our entrees and more drinks. I loved my Austin-esque enchies and the re-fried beans have more chorizo on them when is amazing. The crowd is a mix of locals and a few of the new East Village types, you know what I mean. This is a totally casual and comfy place.
After finishing our fattoush meal, we went downstairs to check out their cocktail spot Mockingbird Bar, where we sampled a few of the cocktails, all of which we liked. The bartenders were chill and fun. I definitely will be back. See how I styled my Sophia cami for this fashionplate below.
