A lunchtime fashionplate with the bestie at Rocky Slims in Kips Bay/Gramercy. This place was basically empty for lunch, my friend joked she rented out the place for me. They play a lot of hip hop which I kind of dug. As per usual this summer, it was a sweltering day so I opted to wear our jade shorts and not much else. We were in dire need of caffeine so we ordered diet cokes and I had a nice white wine while she opted for $3 budweisers. So cheap! We split the pepperoni and bianca pizza and both were delish and more than enough food for two girls. I ended up taking the leftover pizza home which became another meal.
I can’t say much about the crowd as there were two businessmen in there and a few tourists. The slice shop next door gets more traffic and there is outdoor seating at both spots. See the how I styled our Jade shorts for this fashionplate below.

This week’s fashionplate takes us to a place with my favorite summertime drinks- margaritas at a new Hell Kitchens tex mex place- El Original. Upon meeting my bestie here the space is huge and not crowded at all. Of course we started with margaritas on the rocks and my friend got a a Mexican coke too. We split the happy hour trio of queso, guac and salsa. The queso was solid, the guacamole could’ve been spicier but was a good starter. My bestie went for the chicken enchiladas while I went for the beef with extra queso on top. Can you tell I love cheese yet? Both enchiladas were solid but not anything amazing. The rice and beans were standard sides but didn’t stand out.
Now on to the fashion part of the fashionplate. The place is huge so it wasn’t very crowded. There were mostly tourists and a few locals/people who work in the area, so dress veered towards casual or work attire. See how I rocked our Farrah knit romper below.
This week’s fashionplate is keeping it light and fresh during this summer heatwave we are experiencing. I decided to rock our Brigitte self tie halter for my dinner at the new location of Dirt Candy. By now, you all know my tastes veer between uber healthy and completely decadent. Dirt Candy somehow manages to embody both of these things in their larger lower eastside location while maintaining a vegan menu. I decided to try the poolside breeze which is a cocktail that makes you feel like drinking is good as it’s loaded with greens aka antioxidants. My dining companion stuck to vodka sodas. We decided to split a bunch of things. I ended up moving on to wine, a surprisingly dry Riesling. My favorite dish had to be the brussel sprout tacos, yummy and so fun to make with all the little accoutrements. We also enjoyed the tomato cake which had a slightly smokey taste to it and the creamed chard because who doesn’t love creamed anything. The one fail for us was the carrot dish. We both like the waffles but weren’t fans of the curried carrots, the flavors didn’t resonate well for us.
Now on to the fashion part of the fashionplate. The space, although small remains bright and airy with red booths and blond wood tables. The crowd is mostly downtown twenty and thirtysomethings, mostly groups of girls or dates, lots of fedoras and black. See how I styled my Brigitte halter below. Clearly I dig the all black everything look.

Last week’s fashionplate featured a new white bamboo jersey top that is part of the new S/S16 line at The Black Rose, a cute rock and roll cocktail spot in the East Village. My all time favorite drink here is this watermelon and jalapeno drink made with Singani 63. I love anything with watermelon juice so this hits the spot. They also have dope bartenders, play great music and have an adorable outdoor patio. See the fashion part of the fashionplate below.
