Fashionplate- Joan Romper at Hunt & Fish Club

fashionplate hunt&fish clubThis week’s fashionplate is at Hunt&Fish Club, a new midtown steak emporium.  Since I was going out afterwards I wore something a little more fun, our blue and white Joan silk romper with an exposed back zipper! The marbled floors and mirrored walls added a very Wolf of Wall Street vibe and really opened up the space. My dining companion and I had a res here on a Saturday night which definitely needed as the place was packed.  I was running late as I had a friend in town and was pleased to find that we had a comfy booth in the back.  A very dirty, very dry Ketel martini was waiting for me which made me a happy girl.  We then split some west coast oysters that were very good.  More drinks were ordered and then we settled on sharing the boneless rib eye medium rare, macaroni & cheese, and the mashed potatoes.  Everything was super yummy, although no one can touch Peter Lugers and Strip House when it comes to my favorite steak ever, but this steak was juicy and tender.  The mac&cheese and mashed potatoes were both super decadent.  We decided to forgo dessert as I had to get myself to Tippler and Rose Bar.

There were a lot of older couples and suburban types from the tristate area as it is a spot in midtown on a Saturday night, so some of the fashion choices were slightly questionable but made for fun people watching.  See the full ootd fashionplate deets below.

Fashionplate- New F/W15 Blouse at The Happiest Hour

fashionplate happiest hourThis week’s fashionplate features another great new product from the Fall/Winter 2015 collection, a brown silk floral printed blouse that goes hand in hand with the newish tiki inspired cocktail spot in the West Village, The Happiest Hour.  I adore tropical drinks and sipping on a tropical drink can definitely transport you momentarily from snowy winter weather to a tropical beach…well at least in your head.  On a Thursday night around 7:30, the bar was packed and it was hard to find a seat as the place was packed, but after the Sugar Shack and a Fall from the Tree with bourbon and beers for my friend we were able to grab seats to sit and order some food.  I got the grilled cheese which came with a little bowl of tomato soup for dunking and fries and the portions are perfect for a later last minute dinner or snack to line your stomach so you can sample all the delish cocktails.  The grilled cheese was pretty solid and the fries were yummy too.  And I was able to sample a Sazerac and a Daiquiri for dessert.  The drinks were all interesting and yummy, it’s not some complex mixology spot but a chill place to get drinks a little beyond your vodka soda or wine.

Now on to the fashion part and OOTD deets of the fashionplate.  I loved the tiki decor which is the BHH meets surfer kitsch, which I happen to like and thought it would be fun to rock our new brown silk floral blouse for a fun feel.  The crowd here is mostly downtown twenty and thirtysomethings looking for a fun, cool environment.  It’s definitely a mix of afterwork attire and casual West Village chic.  Definitely a fun spot to check out and if you have time check out the lounge underneath.

Fashionplate- New F/W15 Sweater at Pies & Thighs

fashionplate pies&thighsOf course leave it to me to get sick right before fashion week.  Today is the first day I’m not completely on bedrest so wanted to get the latest’s fashionplate up while playing catch up.  Stay tuned for some revised fashion week news from Tasch in the next few days too!  As we all know I love my friend chicken, so on a cold afternoon before I got uber sick I decided to catch up with a friend at the newest outpost of Pies&Thighs on Canal Street.  The space is a super cute and tiny lunch counter.  I’m basically a mini me at 5’1″ so I’m not sure how larger people eat here comfortably, but whatevs I was comfy in my little booth.  I decided to get the fried chicken box with cheese grits.  The fried chicken was juicy and tender and came with 3 pieces of chicken, an amazing biscuit and the cheese grits were just okay I would try the mac&cheese next time.  My friend the chicken biscuit which was also super delish.

Now on to the fashion part of the fashionplate.  Pies&Thighs attracts families with children, old time locals, as well as fans of the Williamsburg outpost who live in Manhattan and don’t feel like making the trek across the bridge.  As this is a casual place I decided to rock my ultra comfy grey open weave oversized sweater from my new F/W15 line.

  • Charcoal grey beanie from Urban Outfitters
  • Tortiseshell eyeglasses from Chanel
  • Black leggings from American Apparel
  • Tan and Brown lace up uggs

Fashionplate- Patti Tank at Mulino a Vino

mulino a vino fashionplateAnother Italian resto for this weeks fashionplate.  This cold weather just begs for comfort food. Mulino a Vino is a newish hidden gem in the Meatpacking district.  Head down the unassuming staircase on 14th Street between eighth and ninth avenues and you are transported to a chic open kitchen wine bar away from the hustle and bustle of the city.  I wanted to rock our leather t-back Patti tank but obviously winterized it as it’s beyond freezing out these past few weeks.  Can spring get here any sooner.  We ended up sitting at the bar as we wanted to see the chefs preparing the food and ask for wine recommendations.  I had a great full bodied red recommended that I ended up having 3 glasses of, I don’t recall the name and my dining companion had a Chianti he enjoyed.  We were then told the best way to go was splitting 4-5 small plates between us, I love getting to try a little bit of everything so this was cool for me.  We got the San Daniele’s Miracle which was basically little foccacia buns stuffed with  prosciutto, burrata and tomatoes which was very good but not a standout dish.  Then came out the Bombolone a la Norma which was an amazing pasta donut with eggplant and cheese so good.  We also got the polpo alla luciana which was also beyond amazing octopus dish.  The goncchi sorrentina was super cheesy with an outstanding sauce.  Our last dish was veal filet which was more of veal chop and was solid but not one of our top 3 dishes.

We were too stuffed for dessert but definitely recommend this place for a date or catch up dinner with your friends.  The crowd varies from young couples to older couples and groups of people looking for an unpretentious dinner and wine before heading out to one of the meatpacking clubs or lounges.
