Fit Food with Tasch-3 cheese Mac&Cheese

image Happy Thanksgiving! For this fit food with Tasch post I decided to indulge since it’s Thanksgiving and I’m cooking for my fam who like a more hearty meal. We paired this 3 cheese Mac&cheese with turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, truffle mashed potatoes, chestnut and chicken sausage stuffing, pecan topped sweet potato casserole, cauliflower and roasted broccoli, and rolls plus salad and apps. Too much food, but on a normal day I would make this with an escarole, fresh herb and pomegranate seed salad with homemade dressing. I rocked our comfy Ack City tee for comfy cooking and looked festive pairing it with plaid.

Smoked Gouda, Sharp& Aged Cheddar Mac&Cheese

Ingredients: box of dried elbow macaroni cooked for 4 minutes and drained, 1 egg beaten, 4 tablespoons of butter, 1/4 cup all purpose flour, 2 1/2 cups fat free half and half, 2 teaspoons dry mustard, 1/3 pound smoked Gouda, 1/2 pound sharp cheddar cheese, 1/4 pound aged sharp cheddar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Grate all the cheese and reserve 1/4 for topping.

3. In a large pot melt butter and sprinkle in flour. Whisk together over medium -low heat. Cook mixture for five minutes whisking constantly.

4. Pour in half and half with mustard added a bit at a time and whisk until smooth each time.  Once all cream has been incorporated cook until very thick.  Reduce heat to low.

5.  In a small bowl beat egg.  Take 1/4 cup of sauce and slowly pour it into beaten egg, whisking constantly to avoid cooking egg.

6.  Pour egg mixture into sauce, whisking constantly.  Stir until smooth and uniform in color.

7.  Add in cheese and stir until melted, then add salt, pepper and Cajun seasoning.  Taste sauce and add more seasoning if desired.

8.  Add in cooked and drained pasta and stir to combine.

9.  Pour mix into a greased baking dish, top with extra cheese, and bake for 25 minutes or until bubbly and golden on top.

Fashionplate- Jade Shorts at Mastros

jade fashionplatesThis week’s fashionplate combines a lot of things I love good friends, steak, martinis, fur, shorts and live music.  Mastro’s is a famous Beverly Hills steakhouse that just opened up in NY, so of course I had to check it out.  Even with a res we still had to wait about 20 minutes at the gorg lit up bar that had a happening scene at 9pm.  We were seated near the band playing riffs on top 40s songs which was fun and entertaining.   They also have a more intimate, downstairs dining room as well.

Foodwise we decided to split the crabcakes which were solid and have some more drinks, there is nothing like a second very dirty, very dry martini after a long day.  We decided to to do a little surf and turf action with the larger bone in filet medium rare, a 2.5lb lobster, twice baked potatoes and creamed spinach.  Yes I love eating my weight.  The filet was cooked perfectly and we devoured it. We also loved the twice baked potato, I mean how can you not love anything with cheese and bacon.  The creamed spinach and lobster were good but nothing mind blowing. I was ready for food coma but we powered through to dessert and got the chocolate layer cake and I had a bananas foster martini.  This martini is amazing I wish I could end every meal with it.  The chocolate layer cake was also amaze albeit we took a few bites and boxed up the rest.

Fashionplate- Jane Skirt at Marta

marta ootd For this Fashionplate I combined two of my great loves pizza and wine, perfect for a cold Fall day.  Marta, is the new Danny Meyers roman style pizza place located in the Martha Washington Hotel. The space is bright and airy and you can see the pizza makers at work.  It’s always crowded and hard to get a ressie, so definitely do this in advance.  My dining companion and me decided to try two different types of pizza and have some wine.  Red wine and pizza are two of my fav things so we decided to go with a nice Pinot Noir.  We split two pizzas a rosse and bianca pizza, the Salisicca pizza and the Tartufata pizza.  Both pizzas were very good, but the truffle pizza won out for me.  They shaved the white truffles table side and it was creamy, decadent and a little piece of heaven on a plate.  Check out that yumminess I didn’t even want to share.  The red pizza was a little spicy and meaty but couldn’t compare to that truffle goodness. Next time I want to try the meatballs as well they looked really good.

truffle time at Marta

For the fashion part of the Fashionplate, my OOTD was chic  yet warm since it was a pretty cold day.  There were a lot of young professionals dressed business casual and just comfy casual chic.  I decided to layer my black lace Jane skirt and it make it all weather appropriate by adding over the knee boots, tights, sweater and a coat.  See the full OOTD deets for this Fashionplate below.
